Rubicello - Marco Voltolini

Purple spinel, from a re-cut
Rendering for sapphire

This is a design with a classical look I designed specifically for re-cuts of badly cut stone of relatively high RI materials that sometimes can be acquired for a reasonable price, often significantly lower than the cost of the rough available to the average lapidarist.

It is well-suited for fast and effective re-cuts since you cut directly the pavilion to the centerpoint, then you can cut the final girdle outline to maximize the final size of the stone. The crown is low, to accommodate the low crowns often found in "native cuts". It's advisable to cut an higher crown when possible, to help with weight retention and to increase scintillation and dispersion of the final stone.
