CampanileUCB - Marco Voltolini

Citrine quartz, CampanileUCB. 15.5 ct.

I liked the "lighthouse" design of J. Graham and I was wondering if a version for longer pieces of rough was possible. I started simply "stretching" the design and the light return was absolutely unsatisfactory. I decided then to add a tier of facets so to have also a small table and then I added steps in the pavilion. Overall performance was better but still unsatisfactory. I then found this solution with a pavilion with fan shaped facets. This improved the light return of the design quite a lot. Tilt performance is very good with respect to the short axis and poor with respect the long axis. But this is common for all stones with high L/W.

Cutting this design is not as simple as it may look, but it in not very difficult either. Facets indexes are very close and if your machine is not perfectly aligned you'll have to work with the cheater quite a bit.

In the stone of the right I unfortunately had to add two tiny extra facets below the stone tips (I also nicked the two tips to avoid chipping) so light return on the tips is not optimal. You can see the overall light return is quite good for a stone with this shape.
