After rereading and thinking about this "The beauty of a gemstone depends almost entirely upon the way it effects the light.", I really think the word "effects" is correct, although in any other instance I would say it should be "affects". I'm leaving it as effects but if anyone thinks it should be otherwise . . . Gemma 20:50, 10 July 2006 (PDT)

When I read this sentence, "Fluorescence is the emission of visible light by a substance, such as a gemstone, when irradiated by energy of a shorter wavelength." I immediately thought "Shorter than what wavelength?" Gemma 21:51, 10 July 2006 (PDT)

Shorter than the emitted wavelength --Doos 07:59, 13 July 2006 (PDT)

i changed it to "Fluorescence is the emission of visible light by a substance, such as a gemstone, when irradiated by energy of a wavelentgh shorter than the emitted wavelength." seems a little cumbersome but not sure how else to reword it, unless i have it completely wrong now!
