Excellent information, and it appears to be 100% correct. I've noticed a couple of typos. I would be happy to correct them. Also, some of the discussion supposes a strong background in chemistry, which gemologists usually don't have. Perhaps links should be offered explaining some of these concepts (even explaining how the periodic table is a wealth of information on "D" shells and electron shells), and I might suggest seriously dumbing down some of the preliminary explanations.

Interesting side bar:
Light may be attracted to free electrons because photons are positively charged....just a thought.

Please do correct any errors. I will have another look at the basic section to make it less technical.
I've never heared about photons having a charge though. As far as I know photons have no net electrical charge (because they have a wave nature aswell as being a particle), but if you could point me at the right info, I would love to read more on that. --Doos 08:04, 2 April 2007 (PDT)
